New Dental Technology

If you haven’t been to the dentist in a while you may be amazed to learn about recent advancements. These new approaches make your visit much more comfortable, precise, faster and simpler than ever before. Click the headlines below to learn more.

Goodbye to the Goop!

Digital Impressions Oakland CAIf you’ve ever had a crown or other dental restoration, you are probably familiar with what’s called impression material. This is that awful tasting “goopy” stuff that makes some people gag. Well, for most patients, you can now say goodbye to that uncomfortable experience.

We are pleased to introduce the Medit™ i500 Scanner. This digital device eliminates the need for the traditional goop used to make a dental impression for your restoration. It’s also much more accurate, which reduces the possibility of a poor fitting restoration. This means less time in the chair for you and a much more comfortable experience!

The Piezo Scaler™ – Teeth Cleaning with Comfort

Professional Teeth Cleaning Oakland CAHaving your teeth cleaned by a dental hygienist is very important for maintaining overall health. Brushing can miss difficult-to-clean areas of the teeth, resulting in plaque build-up. Once it hardens into tartar, regular brushing won’t remove it. When the tartar goes beneath the gumline, bacterial infections can occur, which has an overall impact on your health.

To get your teeth their cleanest, we use a Piezo Scaler to remove the plaque and tartar from the tooth surface and the deep pockets under the gumline. The scaler is a hand tool that puts out high-frequency vibrations to quickly and efficiently remove deposits. Patients have told us there is less discomfort with the Piezo Scaler than regular scaling instruments.

Oral DNA Testing – What Are the Benefits?

Oral DNA Testing Oakland CARecent studies have shown a definite link between gum disease and conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and even some forms of cancer. In our practice we take this very seriously. We use oral DNA testing to determine any genetic predisposition our patients might have toward inflammatory gum infections. Oral DNA testing allows us to determine if a patient is susceptible to gum disease but also those types of bacteria so the patient can have more effective treatment. These tests are fast, painless, and non-invasive and enable us to construct a treatment program just for you.

Digital X-rays – Substantially Less Radiation

Low Radiation X-rays Oakland CAOur practice is proud to offer digital X-rays. These use an efficient and quick technology that has 75% less radiation exposure than older film X-rays. A digital sensor is placed in your mouth, and the image is available immediately on our computer. It saves time, as there is no waiting for the image development and no polluting chemicals used in the process. And our panoramic unit means that in just one shot, we can have a clear image of both your upper and lower teeth.

Become Part of the Team with the Intra-Oral Camera

We strive to create teamwork in each dental decision with every patient. We work together through the images provided by the intra-oral camera. This amazing miniature video camera provides a close-up picture of your teeth. You can easily see what teeth need work and which ones are doing well. You will love how this works!

DryShield™ – Making Dental Visits More Comfortable

In our dentistry, we use the latest advances and are pleased to offer DryShield to make your care more comfortable. This device provides continuous suction, support for your open mouth, and shielding of the tongue and cheek. This keeps the field dry for treatment and you more comfortable. It can even shorten your visit!

The Laser Scanner Locates Early-Stage Cavities

Laser Scanner Oakland CAEver wonder why you just had a large filling placed when you had a cavity-free check-up just six months earlier? It most likely was already there at your previous appointment but didn’t show up on X-rays yet.

We use the laser scanner to detect early-stage cavities when they can be repaired with a small filling. In the past, patients might have complained about pain or sensitivity, but the source could not be detected. The laser scanner makes it possible to receive accurate assessments of decay so the correct treatment is given. It will also allow us to take care of the problem in the earlier stages to let you keep a healthy smile.

State-of-the-Art Sterilization Standards

We don’t take even a slight risk when it comes to safety and cleanliness in the tools we use during treatment. Some of these tools have only a one-time use and are discarded. Instruments that require sterilization are placed in an autoclave that is monitored by an independent lab to ensure high standards are maintained.
